Ducks Battle in the Desert

The Oregon women's tennis team battled against No. 50 Arizona, but ultimately fell, 5-2, in Tucson.
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon women's tennis team battled in the desert, but ultimately fell, 5-2, to No. 50 Arizona on Friday at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.
How It Happened: Oregon (6-14, 0-9) fielded a complete lineup against Arizona (11-10, 2-7), beginning the match even with their opponents for the first time in over two weeks.
The Wildcats kicked things off with a win on court two to jump out to an early lead in doubles. However, Paiton Wagner and Rifanty Kahfiani cruised to a 6-3 victory over No. 61 Emma Wilson and Sophia Thomas at the top spot, to even things up and turn the attention to court three.
Julia Eshet and Taryn Fujimori attemped to battle their way back at the No. 3 spot, but a couple of early breaks proved too difficult to overcome as they lost a close one, 6-4, giving Arizona a 1-0 edge heading into singles.
In singles, Arizona rattled off three straight wins to clinch the victory in its home courts. But, despite a victory in hand for Arizona, the Ducks continued to fight on the remaining three courts.
Daniela Nasser was the first to put Oregon on the board, downing Wilson, 6-4, 6-2, at the top spot. Kahfiani followed closely behind Nasser, claiming a three-set victory at the No. 2 spot to give the Ducks their second point of the day.
Wagner pushed her match to three sets after falling behind in the first, but was ultimately outlasted to award Arizona the final point of the day.
