05/13/19 | Men's Golf
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Edwin Yi returned to form with a 3-under 69 while Yin Ho Yue shot a bogey-free 2-under 70 to pace Oregon in the opening round of the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional Monday at TPC Myrtle Beach. Both Yi and Yue are in the top 10 individually while the Ducks are tied for seventh as a team at 1 over.
How it Happened: After struggling over the last month and a half after an injury in early March, Yi got off to a hot start, making four straight birdies at holes five through eight to make the turn at 4 under. He went double bogey, bogey to start his back nine and drop to 1 under, but bounced back with birdies at holes 14 and 16 to finish the day tied for sixth.
Yue is in a tie for eighth on the individual leaderboard after shooting his sixth round of even par or better in the last eight. He made a birdie on each nine with one coming at the par-5 sixth and the other at the par-3 13th hole, where just four birdies were made all day by the field.
Ryan Gronlund and Craig Ronne both shot 3-over 75s to sit in a tie for 48th. Gronlund had four bogeys and no birdies heading to the par-5 18th, but made birdie there to end his day with a little momentum going into round two. Ronne was 1 over at the turn and had a roller coaster of a back nine, making four birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys for a 2-over 38 coming home.
Illinois holds the opening round lead at 9 under, five shots clear of second-place Ohio State, while Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinois leads the individual race at 5 under.

T6. Edwin Yi – 69 (-3)
T8. Yin Ho Yue – 70 (-2)
T48. Ryan Gronlund – 75 (+3)
