Scavo Scales Leaderboard in Second Round at Nationals
05/19/19 | Women's Golf
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Kathleen Scavo climbed 62 spots on the leaderboard after a standout second round at the NCAA women's golf championships at The Blessings Golf Club.
Scavo rallied from a 9-over 82 in her first round to post a 3-under 70 in her second round. The round started on Saturday but thunderstorms in the area forced play to be halted. Scavo finished her final three holes on Sunday morning.
Scavo started her second round on the back nine, and was two over through five holes. But then the senior had a huge momentum swing with an eagle on No. 15 and birdies on No. 16 and No. 17. She was 2-under when the thunderstorms hit on Saturday. With three final holes to play on Sunday morning, Scavo birdied No. 7 and posted pars on No. 8 and No. 9 to take a 70 into the clubhouse at the par 73 course. She was one of just 23 players (out of 132 total) to be under par in the second round.
Due to the weather delaying second round play, a third and final round of stroke play will take place on Monday. Normally stoke play at nationals is four rounds.
Scavo, playing individually at the tournament, is tied for 33rd going into Monday's third and final round. In two previous NCAA championship appearances, Scavo finished tied for 66th both times.
