EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon women's golf senior Petra Salko has been named a first team Google Cloud Academic All-American, CoSIDA announced on Friday.
The Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America group a handful of sports into its women's at-large All-America team - fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, water polo, beach volleyball, bowling, field hockey and rowing. Even with all those athletes as part of the award pool, Salko stood out from the rest.
The senior posted a 4.05 GPA in business and finance during her four-year career with the Ducks. The University of Oregon grades on a 4.0 scale, but awards a bonus for A+ marks, allowing Salko to achieve a GPA over 4.0. On the course, Salko had a 73.50 scoring average in 32 rounds this season, a top-10 all-time mark at UO. She posted back-to-back top-5 finishes in the spring, coming in second at the Bruin Wave Invitational and fourth at the Wildcat Invitational.
"Petra is one of the hardest working student-athletes I've ever been around," said head coach Derek Radley. "I am so proud of her accomplishments both on and off the course. We are going to miss her greatly, but will be forever grateful for the new standard she has set for this program."
Salko was also named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year this season and she was honored by the Lundquist College of Business this year as its graduate with the highest GPA.
She became the first player in UO women's golf history to become an Academic All-American when she was a third team selection last year.
Salko is the third first team Academic All-American this year for the Oregon athletics department, joining football's Justin Herbert and soccer's Jessica Yu.
