O Heroes Hosting Election Day Program
11/02/20 | O Heroes
UO student-athletes, staff and alumni will participate in a live-streamed fundraiser at noon on Tuesday
Senior distance runner Matt Wisner and beach volleyball sophomore Carly Wallace will co-host an hourlong fundraiser Tuesday to benefit Rock the Vote and shine a light on student-athlete activism on Election Day and beyond.
The program begins at noon and will be streamed at the Facebook page for O Heroes. Wisner and Wallace will lead interviews and virtual roundtable discussions with UO staff, student-athletes and alumni on topics related to Election Day and beyond.
Among the featured guests will be the co-chairs from the UO Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's O Heroes subcommittee, track and field junior Melissa Berry and baseball sophomore Tanner Smith. Wisner and Wallace will speak to Smith about current service projects involving Oregon student-athletes, and Berry will address upcoming O Heroes campaigns.
Soccer sophomore Lilli Rask also will be featured in a segment about the O Heroes Virtual Buddy program.
Wisner and Wallace also will speak with men's basketball assistant coach Mike Mennenga and strength and conditioning coach Courtney Walden about the "Keep It 100" voter registration drive. The "Keep It 100" initiative resulted in every eligible voter among the UO student-athlete population getting registered to participate in this year's election by the time of National Voter Registration Day, on Sept. 22.
A roundtable discussion will feature soccer junior Zoe Hasenauer, baseball senior Evan Williams, track and field alumni Seth Berdahl and Travis Thompson, and UO assistant professor of planning, public policy and management Jose Melendez. They will discuss how students can impact their communities by voting, and ways to stay engaged throughout the year.
The program begins at noon with guest Shirley Vilca, associate director of development for Rock the Vote. Founded in 1990, Rock the Vote is a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to building the political power of young people.
