Ducks Can't Defeat Illinois

EUGENE, Ore. - A back-and-forth match ultimately went the other way as Oregon fell to Illinois, 4-2, on Friday afternoon.
How it Happened: Oregon started the match off strong, claiming the doubles point. Doubles play set the back-and-forth tone for the rest of the match. The Duck duo of Uxia Martinez Moral and Myah Petchey finished first with a doubles win, 6-3. Illinois earned the next doubles pair win, defeating Julia Eshet and Lillian Mould. Oregon's Rifanty Kahfiani and Madisen Olsen ultimatley secured the doubles point for Oregon with a 7-5 victory over Emily Casati and Ashley Yeah (ILL).
Oregon led the match, 1-0, heading into singles. Illinois earned the first two singles points to take a 2-1 lead over the Ducks. Oregon rallied back with a 6-1, 6-3 win from senior Julia Eshet to tie the match up. Myah Petchey battled hard in her match against Ashley Yeah (ILL). The match went back-and-forth and ended in an intense tie breaker in the second set. Yeah (ILL) ultimately came out victorious with a 6-4, 7-6 (11-9) win.
Uxia Martinez Moral remained strong throughout her match, but it ended with a third set win by Illinois freshman Josie Frazier (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) to secure the Illinois match victory.
