EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon head coach Casey Martin announced the addition of Owen Avrit Wednesday to the roster for the 2020-21 season. Avrit spent his freshman season at Long Beach State and will join the Ducks in the fall for his sophomore season.
Â
"We are excited with the addition of Owen to our team," said Martin. "He is a young man who was sort of a late bloomer and really came into his own this past season. He won a big golf tournament and had some low rounds as a freshman. We were hoping to use the transfer portal to better our team and feel like we hit a home run with Owen."
Â
Avrit finished the 2019-20 season with a 71.80 scoring average while posting five rounds in the 60s, appearing in all seven tournaments for The Beach. He got his collegiate career off to an incredible start, taking home a share of the individual title at the Husky Invitational to begin the fall, finishing 6 under highlighted by an opening round 5-under 67.
Â
The Arroyo Grande, Calif. native followed his season-opening victory with a top-10 finish at the Nick Watney Invitational a week later. He came in tied for ninth and closed with a 7-under 64 in the final round, matching the low round of the year for a Long Beach State player. Avrit turned in two more top-30 finishes, ending the fall with a tie for 22nd finish at the Pacific Invitational and opening the fall by coming in tied for 27th at the Arizona Intercollegiate.Â
Â
A standout junior and high school player, Avrit earned all-league honors all four years at Arroyo Grande High School and was named the Mountain League MVP as both a junior and senior. He won the 2018 FCG International Junior Championship, finishing 1 under and locking up the victory following a five-hole playoff.Â
