Matsuoka, Nielsen Named WGCA All-American Scholars
06/29/20 | Women's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. — The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced on Monday morning that Amy Matsuoka and Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen of the Oregon women's golf team have earned the prestigious honor of being named WGCA All-American Scholars.
Â
A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were selected to the All-American Scholar Team, the criteria for which are among the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA required is 3.50.

Â
Matsuoka becomes just the third Duck ever to earn WGCA All-American Scholar honors in each of her four seasons, joining Petra Salko and Therese Wenslow. Matsuoka – who was also named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll – finished her Oregon career with a 3.63 cumulative GPA while earning her degree in economics with a minor in business administration.
Â
Nielsen was named a WGCA All-American Scholar following a tremendous true freshman season. The Denmark native became only the third player in program history to receive WGCA all-America status, and she is the first Duck ever to earn WGCA all-America and WGCA All-American Scholar honors in the same season. The No. 24-ranked player on the final Golfstat individual national rankings, Nielsen led Oregon with a 72.52 scoring average in the shortened season – good for No. 2 in UO single-season history – while finishing in the top 20 in all seven tournaments to open her collegiate career.
