Steady Play Has Ducks In Fourth

TUCSON, Ariz. – Oregon got steady play across the board on the way to shooting 1 over in the second round of the Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Sewailo Golf Club.

Nate Stember and Owen Avrit both shot 1-under 70s to tie for the low round on the team, as Stember sits in a tie for ninth individually at even par. The Ducks are 17 over as a team for the tournament and in fourth place.

How It Happened: Avrit bogeyed the par-3 seventh hole to open his day, then went bogey-free for the rest of his round with a pair of birdies and no pars. His birdies came at the par-5 14th and the par-4 16th before making eight straight pars to end the day.

Stember began his day with a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole then made a bogey and eight pars on the back nine and was even par through 14 holes. He made a pair of birdies and a bogey to shoot a 1-under 70 and move back to even par for the tournament.

Greg Solhaug and Yuki Moriyama both bounced back from shaky opening rounds to turn in the other two counting scores for the Ducks. Solhaug was 3 over after nine holes but played his final nine in 2 under to finish with a 1-over 72. Moriyama had an up-and-down first 11 holes, making a pair of birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey, but steadied his round with six pars and a birdie in his last seven holes to shoot 73.

Tom Gueant shot a 3-over 74, highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 eighth – his last hole of the day – and is now tied for 17th individually at 3 over for the tournament.
