Ducks Drop First Two Matches of 2021

BERKELEY/MORAGA, Calif. – After going nearly a year between matches, Oregon was back on the sand Friday, but dropped a pair of 5-0 decisions on the road at No. 9 California and at Saint Mary's.
How It Happened: In the first match of the day at California, the Ducks battled at the No. 1 through 3 spots against a top-10 opponent, but ultimately fell in straight sets in all five matches. Savannah Siegrist and Carly Wallace made things close in the opening set, but fell 21-15, 21-12, while Delaney Hopen and Josie Cole also dropped a tight first set in a 21-15, 21-14 loss.
Oregon battled again in the afternoon match at Saint Mary's, but lost straight-set matches at all five spots once again. Bea Wetton and Batia Rotshtein kept things close in set one, but lost 21-18, 21-13, at the No. 4 spot, while Hopen and Cole again put up a strong effort before losing 21-14, 21-18 at the No. 3 spot.
