Ducks Beat Utah in Weekend Finale

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon women's tennis team posted a 4-3 win over Utah on Sunday to extend its winning streak to three in a row. The Ducks won the first four points of the match to clinch the win. With Sunday's result, Oregon improves to 9-2 overall with a 3-1 mark in Pac-12 play.
How it Happened: The opening point of the match came down to No. 3 doubles where Julia Eshet and Allison Mulville delivered a 6-3 win to give the Ducks' the early 1-0 match lead. The UO pair broke for a 5-3 lead and then served out the match. At the No. 2 spot, Lillian Mould and Janice Tjen posted a quick 6-1 victory.
Utah (6-6, 0-4 Pac-12) even the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the top spot of the lineup to force the decisive match at the third position.
The Ducks have won three doubles points in a row since losing the point at No. 24 Arizona State in the team's Pac-12 opener on March 5. Oregon has won the doubles point in 10 of 11 matches this season.
Janice Tjen continued her undefeated start with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles, pushing her record to 9-0 this season. The win gave the Ducks the 2-0 advantage, and then Eshet extended that lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win in the six spot. She posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Madison Tattini.
Rifanty Kahfiani clinched the team victory Sunday afternoon with a gritty 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. With the result, she improves to 9-1 this season.
After the match was decided, the visiting Utes picked up wins on the remaining courts—No. 2, 4 and 5—to give the match its final score.
Up Next: Oregon takes a break from conference play with a pair of road matches at San Diego (March 21) and San Diego State (March 22). The Ducks' next home match is Friday, March 26 against USC.
