BATON ROUGE, La. – Oregon will automatically advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships after the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional was unable to be played due to extreme weather and poor course conditions at University Club.
The NCAA made the final call around 10 a.m. PT on Wednesday. With no golf able to be played, the top six seeds in the field automatically move on to the 24-team NCAA Championships, set for May 21-26 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Ducks advance as the No. 4 seed in the field.
Oregon will compete at the NCAA Championships for the 11th time in program history, and first since 2017. The Ducks' best-ever national finish came in 2016 at Eugene Country Club, when UO advanced to match play and finished in a tie for fifth overall.
"We are disappointed that we were unable to play golf this week and absolutely feel for the players and coaches who have to see their seasons end this way," said head coach Derek Radley. "Especially after postseason was canceled last year, we all wanted to go out and compete and have a great week of golf.
"However, we are excited to be moving on and look forward to the opportunity to go to Scottsdale and compete for a national title. I am extremely proud of our team and all of the hard work they have put in this season. They earned a top-six seed with their play throughout the spring and are being rewarded for that with a chance to go to the NCAA Championships."
The NCAA Championships will begin on Friday, May 21, at Grayhawk Golf Club with the first of four rounds of stroke play. The field will be cut to 15 teams going into the final round of the stroke play on Monday, May 24. The top eight finishers in stroke play will then advance to match play, which begins on Tuesday, May 25, with the quarterfinals and semifinals. The championship match will be played on Wednesday, May 26.
