Ducks Finish 25th In Directors' Cup

Oregon is back in the top 25 of the rankings system that assesses broad-based excellence.
Oregon athletics returned to the top 25 of the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings in 2020-21.
UO athletics finished 25th in the final Directors' Cup standings of the year, released Friday. The finish was fueled by a men's indoor track and field national championship, a runner-up finish for the Men of Oregon in outdoor track and field and Sweet Sixteen appearances in volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball. The Ducks were fifth in the rankings among Pac-12 teams.
For the past 28 years, the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup has measured broad-based excellence in college athletics. Points are awarded based on finishes in NCAA championships, with each school measured on its finish in men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and women's volleyball plus its next 15 highest-finishing sports.
When Oregon finished No. 27 in 2018-19, a seven-year streak of top-25 finishes came to an end. The 2019-20 academic year was cut short prematurely by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Ducks battled back into the top 25 for 2020-21 despite continued challenges stemming from the pandemic.
For 2020-21, Oregon scored in football and volleyball among traditional fall sports. The Ducks surged from 50th to 32nd in the standings after the winter thanks to the men's indoor track and field national title, a 15th-place finish by the women and two Sweet Sixteen appearances in basketball. The surge continued in the spring when Oregon had postseason appearances for both outdoor track and field teams, both golf squads, men's tennis, baseball and softball.
The Directors' Cup champion for 2020-21 was Texas. The Longhorns and Oregon were the only athletic departments to send their football team to a bowl game and also make the NCAA Tournament in women's volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball, baseball and softball.
