Lydia Giomi of women's basketball and Hunter Kampmoyer of football won the UO athletic department's most prestigious individual awards for 2020-21.
For the second year in a row, the most prestigious individual awards bestowed annually by the University of Oregon athletics department honored players from the football and women's basketball teams.
Football student-athlete Hunter Kampmoyer has been named winner of the Emerald Athletic Award as the Ducks' top senior male student-athlete in 2020-21 based on leadership, scholarship, citizenship and athletic ability. Giomi was the recipient of the Jackson Athletic Award, given to the top senior female student-athlete based on the same criteria.
Kampmoyer and Giomi previously were award the Pac-12's Tom Hansen Medal as Oregon's outstanding seniors based on scholarship, athletics and leadership. A year ago, football student-athlete Justin Herbert and women's basketball student-athlete Satou Sabally received the Emerald and Jackon awards, respectively.
Kampmoyer was a two-time scholar-athlete award winner for the UO football program, and he had a career-best season on the field last fall. After graduating from Oregon with a sociology degree, he signed a free-agent contract with the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers and was reunited with Herbert.
Giomi helped the UO women's basketball team reach the Final Four during her five years with the program. Over the past year, she earned a master's in education and taught a class of third graders while finishing her final season of eligibility with the Ducks.
The athletic department's Doyle Higdon Award, given to an outstanding sophomore on the basis of athletics, scholarship and citizenship and named for a former UO student-athlete who died while at Oregon, went to Tanner Smith for the 2020-21 year. A third-team all-American for the Ducks this past spring, Smith is heavily involved with Oregon's student-athlete advisory committee.
The Jaqua Award, given to the male and female student-athletes who completed their undergraduate degrees with the highest GPA, went to Isaiah Griffith of track and field (3.62) and Savannah Siegrist of beach volleyball (3.96). Melissa Berry of track and field was honored with the Witham O Heroes Award for her efforts in community service, after sharing the award a year earlier.
