Park Shoots 3 Under To Open Pac-12 Preview
10/31/22 | Women's Golf
KAILUA KONA, Hawaii - Led by a 3-under 70 from junior Ashleigh Park, the Oregon women's golf team opened the Nanea Pac-12 Preview with a 4-under 288 on Monday at Nanea Golf Club.
The No. 6 Ducks sit in sixth place in the 12-team event after 18 holes. No. 22 Arizona State is in the lead at 17 under, with No. 1 Stanford in second at -13 and No. 13 Arizona in third at -12.
Park continued her stellar start to her Oregon career after transferring from Texas, firing her fifth round of par or better in just her eighth opportunity. Park is tied for ninth individually after Monday, four strokes behind individual leaders Ashley Menne (ASU) and Julia Misemer (Arizona).
How it Happened: Park got off to a little bit of a slow start, sitting at 2 over after three bogeys in her first six holes. But a birdie at No. 13 - her seventh hole of the day after a shotgun start - ignited a stellar finish to her round. Park shot 5 under across her final 12 holes, making five birdies and seven pars without making another bogey.
Ching-Tzu Chen also enjoyed a strong round, making four birdies and just three bogeys for a 1-under 72. Chen was 1 under after a birdie on her seventh hole, and never got above even par on the day.
Brittany Shin and Minori Nagano rounded out Oregon's counting scores with a pair of even-par 73s. Shin was 2 over through 11 holes before making three birdies and a bogey in her final seven, and Nagano made three birdies in a four-hole stretch late in her round to card her first par-or-better round as a Duck.
