Park, Shin Lead Ducks To Third-Place Finish

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. - The Oregon women's golf team posted its best round of the week with a 2-under 286 on Tuesday to close the Windy City Classic in third place at 17-over par.

USC won the team title at 3 over, with South Carolina in second at 12 over. Oregon finished 10 strokes ahead of Arizona State and Duke, which tied for fourth.

The Ducks were led by strong weeks from Ashleigh Park and Brittany Shin, who tied for seventh place individually at 3 over. Park and senior Ching-Tzu Chen posted the top scores of Tuesday's final round, each shooting 3-under 69 for the team's first sub-70 rounds this season.

How it Happened: Park was nearly flawless in the final round, making four birdies and just one bogey to finish with a 69. The Texas transfer made her lone bogey at No. 7 before shooting 2-under par the rest of the way.

It was the second straight impressive outing for Park, who tied for 12th overall at the Annika Intercollegiate last month to open her Oregon career.

Shin finished off a 1-under 71 in the second round on Tuesday after play was suspended due to darkness on Monday, and then closed with a 3-over 75 in the final round. It was the top finish as a Duck for the 2021 Big West Player of the Year, who joined Oregon last season as a transfer from Cal State Fullerton.

Chen made a team-high five birdies in the final round, including four in five holes from No. 11 to No. 15. She finished the week at 8 over, in a tie for 24th overall.

Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu, the 2022 individual Pac-12 champion, tied for 12th overall after posting a 3-over 75 in the final round. She struggled with five bogeys in a span of six holes early in the final round, but bounced back to shoot 1 under across her final 11.

Minori Nagano contributed to Oregon's team score in the final round with a 1-over 73, her best round in her first tournament as a Duck. The two-time junior college national champion started her final round with back-to-back birdies.

Notable: Oregon was the best team in the field on par-3 holes, shooting even par ... The Ducks' 39 total birdies were third-most in the field .. Park tied for the best individual score on par-3s at 2 under, with Lu right behind at 1 under.

Up Next: The Ducks will compete at the prestigious East Lake Cup on Oct. 24-26, an event that features the final four teams from the previous year's NCAA Championships. The tournament will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
