03/25/22 | Women's Golf
PHOENIX – Briana Chacon fired a 3-under 69 and Tze-Han (Heather) Lin made 17 pars for a bogey-free 71 on Friday to lead the Oregon women's golf team to a strong opening round in the PING/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Course.
The No. 2 Ducks closed the day with a 2-under 286, finishing round one in a three-way tie for third place with No. 18 Baylor and Northwestern. No. 9 Arizona State is the 18-hole leader at 8-under par on its home course, and Oregon is one stroke back of top-ranked Stanford (-3) for second place.
"Solid start to the weekend for our ladies," head coach Derek Radley said. "We know this course pretty well and were able to do a good job of putting ourselves in manageable positions. Our expectation is always to get better with each round, so I'm pleased with how we were able to come out of the gate here today and look forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow and Sunday."
How it Happened: Chacon was 1 over through her first six holes before rattling off three straight birdies to make the turn at 2-under par. She made another birdie at No. 11 for her fourth in five holes, and she finished out the round with seven straight pars to card her second sub-70 round of the season and sixth of her career.
