Chacon, Lu Set For Augusta National Women's Amateur
03/29/22 | Women's Golf
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Oregon women's golf standouts Briana Chacon and Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu will compete on one of the sports biggest stages beginning on Wednesday at the 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur.
After becoming the first Oregon duo to earn all-Pac-12 honors in the same season in 2020-21, Chacon and Lu received invitations to the Augusta National Women's Amateur as two of the top-ranked amateurs in the world.
The tournament will begin with 18 holes each on Wednesday and Thursday, to be played at Champions Retreat Golf Club. The field will be cut to 30 players following the first 36 holes, with ties to be resolved by playoff holes.
The entire field will play the famous Augusta National Golf Club in an official practice round on Friday, with the final round set for Augusta National on Saturday for the 30 competitors who made the cut. In the event of a tie after 54 holes, the winner will be decided by a sudden-death playoff.
Chacon will tee off in group 16 on Wednesday at 6:54 a.m. PT, with Lu in group 22 with a tee time of 7:30 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament can be found here.
NBC Sports will broadcast three hours of live final-round coverage on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. PT. Updates on Chacon and Lu can be found throughout the week on Twitter at @OregonWGolf.
Provided she remain an amateur, the 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, the 2022 U.S. Women's Open, the 2022 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year.
Following the Augusta National Women's Amateur, Chacon and Lu will fly to Napa, Calif., along with head coach Derek Radley – who will be caddying for Chacon this week – to join the rest of the No. 2 Ducks for the Silverado Showdown (April 4-6).
