STANFORD, Calif. — Ching-Tzu Chen will enter Sunday's final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate just three strokes back of the individual lead after leading Oregon with a 2-under 69 on Saturday at Stanford Golf Course.
Â
Oregon's fifth-year senior improved on her 1-under 70 from Friday by a stroke and sits in a tie for sixth overall at 3-under par with 18 holes remaining. Chen is seeking her second straight top-five finish after tying for fourth earlier this month at the Windy City Classic.
Â
The No. 4 Ducks closed the second round with an 8-over 292, a four-stroke improvement from the opening round. Oregon is tied for 14th overall at 20 over, with No. 11 USC and Virginia currently tied for the team lead at 5-under par.
Â
How it Happened: Chen was even through her first 13 holes before catching fire with three birdies in a row to get to 3 under. She made a bogey at No. 17, but finished her day with a par to break 70 for the third time this season.
Â
Chen made four total birdies on the day to bring her career total to 298, just two shy of becoming the seventh Duck ever to reach 300.
Â
Senior Ashleigh Park finished with a 2-over 73, while freshmen Kiara Romero and Ting-Hsuan (Tiffany) Huang each carded a 4-over 75 to round out Oregon's counting scores. Romero finished over par for the first time in her collegiate career, ending a run of 10 consecutive par-or-better showings.
