11/09/23 | Women's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon women's golf team has signed a trio of highly-regarded student-athletes to the class of 2024, head coach Derek Radley announced on Thursday.
The Ducks' incoming class is headlined by Yana Wilson, winner of the 2022 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, and also includes a pair of accomplished international players in Tong An and Suvichaya Vinijchaitham.
"We are thrilled to welcome each of these three tremendous young ladies into our program," Radley said. "All three of them are extremely talented and experienced on the golf course, but they also fit perfectly into our culture and are the type of people we want here at Oregon. We can't wait to get them all to Eugene and get to work."
Yana Wilson | Henderson, Nev.
Currently No. 81 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Wilson joins the Ducks as one of the top talents in the class of 2024. Wilson owns five wins and 11 top-10 finishes just since 2022, including a victory at the 2022 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship. Her signing gives Oregon each of the last two U.S. Girls' Junior Championship winners – current freshman Kiara Romero won in 2023 before joining the Ducks this fall. Wilson also won the 2022 Hilton Grand Vacations ANNIKA Invitational, the 2023 IJGT Elite Series #1, the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open and the 2023 AJGA Girls Invitational, and she was the runner-up at the 2023 AJGA Invitational, the 2023 Girls' Junior PGA Championship and the 2023 Rolex Girls Junior Championship. The Nevada native placed ninth at the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, and has already competed in two August National Women's Amateur Championships.
"Extremely excited and thankful to officially welcome Yana Wilson and her parents, Jim and Olga, to our Duck family," Radley said. "Yana started playing golf at the age of nine and has been full steam ahead ever since. Coach Krissy and I can't wait to watch this talented young lady compete on college golf's biggest stage in green and yellow."
Tong An | Tianjin, China
An will join the Ducks out of China, where she performed extremely well competing as an amateur on the professional circuit. She has five victories and 22 top-10 finishes in various tournaments since 2021, including a win at the 2022 Hangzhou International Championship. An also won the 2021 HSBC China Junior Golf Open, the 2022 Super Lychee National Amateur Golf Tournament Leg 2, the 2022 HSBC National Junior Champions Leg 1, and the 2022 CLPGQ Zhuhai Series-10. She is currently ranked No. 106 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and recently placed sixth at the Buick China Junior Golf Championship.
"I'd like to officially welcome Tong An to our Duck family," Radley said. "'AT', as I call her, is one of the most talented players I have ever watched and has proven success winning on the professional level in China as an amateur. But more importantly, she is an amazing person and will be a perfect fit into our culture."
Suvichaya (Hut) Vinjichatham | Khon Kaen, Thailand
A native of Thailand, Vinjichatham has racked up four wins and 21 top-10 finishes since 2021, and is currently at No. 220 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She put together a run of 10 straight top-10 finishes from the end of 2021 to midway through 2022, including a fifth-place showing at the 2022 SINGHA Thailand Amateur Match Play Championships and a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Singapore Junior Golf Championship. Vinjichatham came back to win the 2023 SINGHA Thailand Amateur Match Play Championships, and followed that up with a win at the Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship. She also won the 60th SEA Amateur Team Championship earlier this year, and placed 12th at the SINGHA Thailand Amateur Open.
"Coach Krissy and I are very excited to welcome Suvichaya (Hut) Vinjichatham to our Duck family," Radley said. "Hut is a current member of the Thailand national team and is a natural ball striker with big dreams. We can't wait for her to get started next fall and watch her talent takeover at the college level."
