Three Ducks Set To Compete On Big Stages
03/28/23 | Women's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. — Three members of the Oregon women's golf team will compete on national stages this week as individuals, before the Ducks get back to team competition on Monday at the Silverado Showdown.

Senior Briana Chacon and junior Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu will play at the Augusta National Women's Amateur beginning Wednesday, and junior Ching-Tzu Chen is set to tee off in the LPGA's DIO Implant LA Open on Thursday.

Chacon and Lu are heading back to Augusta, Ga., for the second year in a row to compete in the premiere amateur tournament in women's golf. The first two rounds will be played at Champions Retreat Golf Club on Wednesday and Thursday, with the top 30 players then advancing to the final round on Saturday at the famous Augusta National Golf Club. All players will have the opportunity to play a practice round at Augusta National on Friday.

Lu is scheduled to tee off in round one at 5:12 a.m. PT on Wednesday morning, with Chacon set to start at 5:58 a.m.

Chacon and Lu are both looking to advance to Saturday's final round at Augusta National after missing the cut in their first year at the tournament last spring. Golf Channel will have live coverage of the event from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and Saturday's final round will air on NBC from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Chen earned a sponsor exemption to play in the DIO Implant LA Open with her showing at last month's Therese Hession Regional Challenge, where she matched her best career finish in a tie for second. Chen will return to Palos Verdes Golf Club to compete against a field of professionals beginning with the first round on Thursday. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Sunday.

Golf Channel will have delayed coverage of the DIO Implant LA Open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The trio will then meet up with the rest of the Oregon team for the Silverado Showdown, which begins Monday in Napa, Calif. It will be the final regular-season tournament for the No. 5 Ducks before going to Phoenix for the Pac-12 Championships on April 17-19.
