Ducks Take Down Utah in Boise Finale

Oregon has won five of its past six meetings with Utah.

BOISE, Idaho – The Oregon beach volleyball team closed out its weekend with a 4-1 victory over Utah on the final day of the Boise Classic. Including Saturday's result, the Ducks won two of three this weekend.

In the first wave of matches, Oregon (7-15) battled their way to a pair of three-set wins to take the early 2-0 lead over Utah. The No. 2 pair of Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown dropped the opening set but rallied for a 15-21, 21-16, 15-7 victory over Grace Andrews and Marissa Koch for the Ducks' first point.

Meanwhile at the fourth spot in the lineup, Valerie Peterson and Batia Rotshtein had a three-set win of their own. The duo won the opening set before Utah's Savannah Cottam and Sonja Wessel pulled even to force a third. However, Peterson and Rotshtein controlled most of the decisive frame and came away with the 21-19, 21-18, 15-9 win.

The Utes got on the scoreboard with a straight-set win at No. 5 pairs to cut the Ducks' lead in half.

Oregon quickly responded with the dual-clinching victory at the top spot from Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton. With their 21-18, 21-15 win over Katie McAlister and Amaya Messier, the Oregon tandem completed an undefeated weekend and stretched their winning streak to eight in a row.

Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder posted the Ducks' final point with a 21-14, 21-14 win at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. The UO pair beat Abby Karich and Bella Vezzani in the final match on court.

With the team win, Oregon has won five of its last six matches against Utah.

Up Next: The Ducks carry on to the Pac-12 North Invitational next weekend at Stanford. Oregon is set to face conference opponents Arizona State, USC, Utah and host Stanford.
