
Ducks In Need Of Strong Finish Entering Final Round

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Oregon women's golf team will need a strong finish in the final round of the NCAA Westfield Regional following a 3-over 291 in Tuesday's second round at The Club at Chatham Hills.
The No. 8 ranked Ducks remain in 10th place at 9-over par with 18 holes remaining. The top five teams at the end of Wednesday's final round will advance to the 2023 NCAA Championships next week in Scottsdale. No. 25 Virginia and Tulsa currently hold the final qualifying spots in a tie for fourth at 5-under par, with No. 5 Mississippi State (-21), Oregon State (-13) and No. 17 Vanderbilt (-7) making up the top three.
Senior Briana Chacon once again led the way for the Ducks with a 1-under 71, her fifth straight par-or-better round and team-leading 12th of the season.
How it Happened: The Ducks have had opportunities to move up the leaderboard, but have struggled to capitalize with birdies. Oregon leads the field through 36 holes with 122 total pars, but owns the fewest total birdies with 19.
Teeing off from No. 10, Chacon got off to a strong start for the second straight round with a bogey-free first nine. The two-time all-American made eight pars and a birdie at No. 13 to make the turn at 1 under, and she bounced back with a bogey at No. 1 with seven more pars and a birdie at No. 6.
Chacon is tied for 13th overall at 2-under par entering the final round. Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez leads the field at 11 under.
Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu was one stroke behind Chacon with an even-par 72, her ninth par-or-better round this season. Lu made back-to-back birdies at No. 4 and No. 5 to get to 1 under, but followed with a bogey at No. 6 before finishing with three straight pars.
Minori Nagano and Anika Varma each shot a 2-over 74 to round out Oregon's counting scores. Nagano made a team-high four birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch on the front nine.
