
Norman, Elmore Lead Ducks at Dellinger

The Men and Women of Oregon both posted runner-up team finishes.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Oregon cross country teams combined for four top-10 individual finishes with each finishing second overall in the team standings. In their season debuts, Quincy Norman was second in the men's 8K while Eugene native Maddy Elmore paced the UO women with a seventh-place showing at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield.
Norman navigated the 8K course in 23:43.8 on his way to runner-up honors. From last year to this, the Forest Grove, Ore., native improved from 13th to second overall and took more than 15 seconds off his time. He was joined in the race top 10 by teammate Elliott Cook who backed up his victory from three weeks ago with a seventh-place effort Friday morning.
The men's top-five was rounded out by Abdinasir Hussein (24:16.4) in 20th overall, Ben Balazs (24:18.8) in 22nd and Kutoven Stevens (24:23.9) in 29th place. The UO men got their sixth runner inside the top 30 with Joshua Schumacher (24:26.0) in his cross debut in an Oregon kit.
Elmore and returning All-American Izzy Thornton-Bott finished seventh and ninth at the Dellinger with Junction City, Ore., native Anika Thompson crossing in 11th as the Ducks' third runner. Elmore, who was 16th at the meet last season, posted a time of 20:12.7 as the team's top finisher. Thornton-Bott secured a top-10 spot in 20:23.0 with Thompson running 20:36.9 in her first Dellinger appearance since 2021.
Katie Clute was the fourth UO woman across the line, clocking in at 20:50.1 as a follow-up performance to her victory at the season-opening Linfield Classic (Sept. 1). The team's top five also featured Klaudia Kazimierska (21:10.5), also in her season debut. Clute and Kazimierska finished in 25th and 34th overall, respectively.
Notable
In the men's race, three UO runners competing unattached turned in top-10 performances with Simeon Birnbaum (third/23:44.1), Josh Edwards (fourth/23:45.2) and Archie Noakes (10th/24:06.2). For the UO women, Emilie Girard (22nd/20:44.9) and Victoria Patterson (24th/20:49.7) also competed unattached in Friday's race.
