Oregon Stays Perfect at Home
02/10/24 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team remained unbeaten at home and picked up its third straight win with a 4-3 victory over UC Santa Barbara at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks picked up the doubles points for the fifth time in six matches, and then won the first three singles matches in straight sets to stake a 4-0 lead. With the match already decided, UCSB then won the remaining three singles matches.
"I think we came out with a good mindset," said head coach Courtney Nagle. "Three doubles took care of business and just played their game. And two doubles, again, stuck with everything and played some great tennis. At the end of the day, we are looking to get three solid (doubles) teams working together and we had that today, so hopefully we can continue that."

Candela Aparisi and Karin Young, playing third doubles, quickly earned a 6-2 win while Jo-Yee Chan and Uxia Martinez Moral followed suit with a 6-4 triumph at second doubles to earn the doubles point. Nina Geissler and Sophie Luescher, facing the 26th-ranked duo in UCSB's Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter, went unfinished with the score sitting at 4-5.
Chan extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three, her third straight match playing at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. Martinez Moral pushed the lead to 3-0 with her straight-set victory at fourth singles while Young nabbed the decisive fourth point with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Tyra Richardson at No. 5
Chan, Martinez Moral and Young each picked up their fourth singles win in six matches to lead the team in singles victories.
Luescher, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, faced a tall task against Honer at the top spot in the lineup. Ranked No. 64 in the ITA rankings, Honer escaped with a 7-5, 6-1 win. Geissler suffered a three-set defeat at second singles and Aparisi fell 6-4, 6-4 at the sixth position.
Oregon continue its homestand on Sunday against Denver at 11 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center.
