Ducks In Second After 18 Holes

STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon women's golf team is in second place through the opening round of the 2025 Stanford Intercollegiate after four Ducks shot under par on Friday at Stanford Golf Course.
The No. 3 Ducks finished round one with a 7-under 277, six strokes back of top-ranked Stanford (-13) for the lead. Arizona (-6) is one stroke behind Oregon in third, with UCLA (+1) seven strokes back of the Wildcats in fourth.
Oregon got scores of 2-under 69 from Tong An, Darae Chung and Kiara Romero, and freshman Sophie Han rounded out the counting scores with a 1-under 70. The Ducks started their day on the back nine were and 2 over through nine holes before going 9-under par on the front side.
How it Happened: Romero, the top-ranked amateur in the world, was 2 over through nine holes before igniting the Ducks after the turn with an eagle putt on No. 1 after reaching the green of the par 5 in two shots.
Romero added birdies on holes 3, 7 and 9 to shoot a 4-under 31 on the front side and card her 29th career sub-70 round with a 2-under 69. The 2025 Big Ten Golfer of the Year has shot par-or-better in 56 of her 70 career rounds as a Duck.
An and Chung had nearly identical rounds, both shooting even par through nine holes and 2 under across their final nine. Both Ducks shot under 70 for the fifth time in their collegiate careers.
Chung was 2 under through six holes before making two bogeys in three holes before the turn, but she was solid on the the front side with two birdies and seven pars. It was a continuation of strong play for Chung, who earned her first career win at the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 30 while competing as an individual.
A bogey at No. 18 put An back at even par at the turn, but she responded with three birdies in four holes on the front side en route to matching Chung and Romero with a 2-under 69.
Han was consistent throughout the round with three birdies and just two bogeys. She was 1 over through 11 holes before finishing with two birdies and five pars, including a birdie on the par-4 ninth to end her round.
