Romero's 69 Highlights Round Two

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - Sophomore Kiara Romero fired a 2-under 69 on Monday to lead the Oregon women's golf team in the second round of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
After shooting a 1-under 70 on Sunday, Romero is now tied with freshman Tong An as the top Ducks on the leaderboard in a tie for fifth place overall at 3-under par. An followed up her 3-under 68 in the opening round with an even-par 71 in round two.
The No. 6 Ducks finished Monday's action with a 9-over 293, putting them in a tie for fifth place at 8 over. No. 4 USC leads the field at 9-under par.
How it Happened: Teeing off on the back nine to start the day, Romero made four straight pars before rattling off three consecutive birdies to get to 3 under. She remained at 3 under through the turn before making a bogey at No. 2, and she was even the rest of the way to come in with a 69.
It was the 32nd par-or-better performance for Romero in 43 career rounds as a Duck, and she shot sub-70 for the third time this season and 11th time in her career.
An had an up-and-down start to her round, making three birdies, three pars and three bogeys to make the turn at even par. She was 1 over after a bogey at No. 2, but she bounced back with six consecutive pars before ending her round with a birdie at No. 9.
An posted her fifth par-or-better round of the season, and she and Romero will enter Tuesday's final round four strokes back of individual leader Jasmine Koo (USC).
Freshman Suvichaya Vinijchaitham closed round two with a 5-over 76, and sophomore Ting-Hsuan Huang rounded out the counting scores with a 6-over 77.
