O Show Nominees: Best Team
05/23/25 | General
Looking ahead to potential winners at the athletic department's annual O Show on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday, May 27, the UO athletic department will stage the annual O Show, a traditional end-of-year celebration of the accomplishments of Oregon student-athletes both in athletics and academics.
Nominations for the various awards to be handed out Tuesday were made through the coaching staffs and academic advisors of all teams, with the award winners selected through a vote of student-athletes and department staff. There are also awards for coaches, faculty and support staff who go above and beyond to provide an exceptional student-athlete experience.
Due to the timing of the show, accomplishments from the beginning of May 2024 through the end of April 2025 are considered for the honors.
In the days leading up to the show, we'll preview some of the awards to be handed out Tuesday. Today's category: Best Team.
And the nominees are …
Women's track and field
The Ducks followed up a fourth-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor championship meet last June by bringing home a national title at the 2025 NCAA Indoor meet. Jaida Ross won the shot put and Jadyn Mays had two top-five finishes in the sprints to wrap up their UO careers outdoors. Both then contributed to the indoor title this March, with Ross taking second in her signature event and Mays taking second in the sprints. Oregon also got a win from Wilma Nielsen in the mile and a runner-up finish from Aaliyah McCormick in the 60 hurdles to bring home the women's 15th national title across indoor track and field, cross country and outdoor track and field.
Women's golf
Between May of last year and April of this year, all the UO women's golf team did was make the final four at the NCAA Championships and then bring home the Big Ten Championship as part of the athletic department's massive haul of titles in its first year as members. The Ducks reached the national semifinals last spring, doing so for the second time in three years (a feat they'd repeat this spring, albeit too late for consideration for this year's O Show). This April, the Oregon women put together a dominant final round to bring home the Big Ten title, led by conference individual champion and player of the year Kiara Romero.
Football
Another one of the athletic department's Big Ten titles over the past year came in football, after the Ducks completed just the second 12-0 regular season in school history. Dan Lanning's Ducks then went to Indianapolis and beat Penn State in the Big Ten championship game, locking up a spot in the newly expanded College Football Playoff field. There, the Ducks dropped a quarterfinal game to Ohio State, but the accomplishments of the 2024 Oregon football team overall made for one of the most historic seasons in program history.
Acrobatics and tumbling
The 2025 season saw the Ducks reach the national championship match, and crown multiple champions in individual events. Oregon went 7-3 overall on the season, the Ducks' highest win total in nearly a decade, before running into perennial national title winner Baylor in the NCATA Championships. UO student-athletes competed in 12 of 15 event finals the next day and brought home titles in seven-element acro, open pyramid and six-element tumbling. Bethany Glick and Bella Swarthout were the winning duo in seven-element acro, Swarthout, Blessyn McMorris, Selah Bell, Emily Rezner and Brylie Hoover competed in the open pyramid, while Riley Watson brought home the six-element tumbling title.
