The fundraiser for Kidsports will include current, past and incoming UO student-athletes.
EUGENE, Ore. — Current Oregon student-athletes, incoming freshmen and noteworthy alumni will be on hand July 12 at Jane Sanders Stadium for the second annual Kidsports Celebrity Softball game.
Proceeds from the event, which is sponsored by Kendall Auto Group and for which tickets are on sale now, will benefit the Emerald Scholarship Fund. The fund helps nearly 4,000 local kids annually to participate in youth sports.
The event July 12 begins with a home run derby at 5:30 p.m. That will be followed by a game at 6:30 p.m. matching teams captained by UO quarterback Dante Moore and two-sport standout Bryce Boettcher.
"In the new age of college athletics, it is still heartwarming to have student-athletes commit to helping a community of kids get a chance to play and have fun," said Kidsports executive director Bev Smith, one of the all-time great players in UO women's basketball history. "The Ducks' involvement with the community creates connection and goodwill, and allows our community to see the Ducks under the bright and brilliant lights of humanity."
Boettcher's team, the "Defense" that will face Moore's "Offense," includes UO football teammates including edges Teitum Tuioti and Matayo Uiagalelei, members of the softball team, men's basketball player Nate Bittle and alumni including men's basketball greats Luke Jackson and Luke Ridnour. Participants could change up until the day of the game.
Boettcher is a Eugene native who grew up playing sports locally.
"Playing multiple sports as a kid gave me the drive and skills to succeed as a multi-sport athlete," said Boettcher, a football linebacker who began his UO athletics career with the baseball team and was drafted last summer by the Houston Astros. "By creating a fun, positive space for kids, Kidsports teaches them valuable life lessons about discipline and teamwork."
Moore's team includes exciting young UO football talent including Dakorien Moore and Kenyon Sadiq, softball standouts including postseason hero Dezianna Patmon and Oregon football all-time greats LaMichael James and De'Anthony Thomas.
Also scheduled to appear with Dante Moore's "Offense" team is incoming softball freshman Maddie Milhorn.
"Playing sports as a kid helped me develop the athletic and leadership skills I use today as a college quarterback," Moore said. "Kidsports helps children discover the magic of playing, growing and having fun. Kids who move, move the world."
The benefit is also scheduled to include a silent auction of exclusive merchandise, signed memorabilia and game-day experiences. Click here for more information and to buy tickets for the event.
