LAKE BLUFF, Ill. – The Oregon women's golf team closed its week at the 2025 Jackson T. Stephens Cup with a narrow 3-2 loss to No. 3 Texas on Wednesday at Shoreacres Golf Club.
After finishing third in stroke play on Tuesday, the No. 2 Ducks were matched up with the Longhorns in a rematch of the 2025 NCAA quarterfinals last spring. Oregon got wins from sophomore Tong An and freshman Sophie Han, but Texas came out on top in the other three matches to secure the victory.
"Not the result we were hoping for today, but this was a really great experience for our team this week," head coach Derek Radley said. "We got to go up against some really good teams on a national stage and also get some match play experience for our two freshmen. I'm looking forward to see how we respond from this and am excited to get back to practice and work on some areas where we can improve."
How it Happened: Playing in match play for the first time in her collegiate career, Han was dominant from start to finish against Texas' Cindy Hsu. The Hong Kong native won the first hole of the day and was quickly 4 up through six holes. Hsu won her first hole at No. 9 but Han responded with wins at No. 11 and No. 13 before tying at No. 14 to secure a 5&4 victory.
An - who was the hero against the Longhorns last spring with the winning putt on a second playoff hole to send Oregon to the national semifinals - was 1 down through seven holes before winning at No. 8 and No. 10 to take a 1 up lead. Texas' Vivian Lu pulled even on the 15th but An won the next two holes to clinch the match, 2&1, including an eagle on 17 to end it.
Farah O'Keefe pulled out a 4&3 win for Texas over junior Kiara Romero and freshman Shyla Singh dropped a 2&1 decision to Lauren Kim, brining the match down to Oregon's Suvichaya Vinijchaitham and Texas' Angela Heo.
Vinijchaitham never led in her match, but she didn't allow Heo to build a lead of more than 1 up until the 16th hole. Vinijchaitham birdied at 17 to pull back within a hole, but the two tied on No. 18 as Heo secured the match for the Longhorns.
