Cherubet Fifth at Gans Creek Classic

The UO men and women finished sixth at Oklahoma State and Mizzou meets, respectively.
EUGENE, Ore. – In her cross country debut for the Women of Oregon, junior Juliet Cherubet ran to an individual fifth-place finish Friday morning at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo. The UO men, at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., and women were sixth in the respective team results.
Sophomore Tayson Echohawk was 16th to pace the Men of Oregon in Oklahoma.
Cherubet navigated the 6K course in a time of 19:20.3 and moved from just outside the top 10 to fifth over the final two kilometers. The Eldoret, Kenya, native was joined inside the top 40 by Dalia Frias in 27th place (19:58.2) and Ella Thorsett in 36th (20:08.3). It was Frias' first race for Oregon since the 2024 NCAA West First Round.
The UO women's top five was rounded out by Anika Thompson and Ali Ince.
Gans Creek will serve as the host site for the 2025 NCAA Division I Cross country Championships in just under two months.
Echohawk crossed the finish line in Stillwater in 24:12.1, just over 19 seconds faster than his time at last year's Cowboy Jamboree. He was one of three Oregon men to finish inside the top 30 along with Sergio Del Barrio and Anthony Fast Horse in 28th and 29th place, respectively. Both clocked in at 24:35.8. It was the UO debut for Fast Horse.
Jeffery Rogers and Jack Meier were fourth and fifth in the UO lineup, respectively.
