Ducks Close Out Play at Mid-Season Rumble

Oregon next plays in the Mustang Roundup (March 13-14) at Cal Poly.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Oregon beach volleyball team dropped its last two matches of the MPSF Mid-Season Rumble in Los Angeles, losing to fifth-ranked Texas and then No. 2 UCLA in the weekend finale. With their latest results, the Ducks are now 5-8 through the first three weeks of the season.
Match 12: #5 Texas 5, Oregon 0
The Longhorns led 2-0 after the first wave of matches, claiming points on courts two and four before a win at No. 5 pairs clinched the dual in their favor. At the top spot of the lineup, the Oregon duo of Bella Gamache and Liz Rossi battled Texas' Katie Hashman and Brecht Piersma in a pair of close sets but the UT created separation late and pulled away for the 21-15, 21-16 win.

In their first match of the season at the No. 2 spot, Gwen Fife and AJ Slojkowski jumped out to an early lead in the opening set against Ensley Alden and Kaley Mathews. The Ducks' duo led 17-12 before UCLA began to rally and arrived at set point at 20-18. Fife and Slojkowski saved both set points before Alden and Mathews came away with the extended first set on their way to a 23-21, 21-12 win.
