Romero Makes History With Fifth Career Win
Star junior Kiara Romero continued her historic career while leading the Ducks to a runner-up finish at the Chevron Collegiate the last time out, winning the individual title by four strokes to break the program record with her fifth career tournament win. Romero broke a tie with Kendra Little (2008-11) for the most individual wins ever by a Duck, shooting 11-under par for the week while finishing under par in all three rounds. Romero jumped out to an early lead with a 6-under 66 in the opening round and never looked back, and she led the field with 18 total birdies.
Tsuru Returns, Ducks Take Second
The record-breaking win by Kiara Romero wasn't the only headline for the Ducks at the Chevron Collegiate, as they also got a boost from the return of junior Karen Tsuru to the lineup. Tsuru made her season debut after battling injuries for much of the season, and the 2025 all-Big Ten first-team selection shined with a seventh-place finish at 5-under par (68-70-72). Tsuru and sophomore Tong An (T-20, E) combined with Romero to give the Ducks three players in the top 20, as Oregon claimed its third runner-up showing so far in 2025-26. Since head coach Derek Radley took over in 2018-19, Oregon has finished in the top two 33 times.
Kiara Romero - Best in the World
Already arguably the greatest player in program history, junior Kiara Romero has solidified her standing as the No. 1 ranked amateur women's golfer in the world. Romero is the first two-time, first-team all-American in Oregon history after earning the honor in each of her first two seasons, and she is the reigning Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Year after winning the individual conference title and leading Oregon to the Big Ten team championship last spring. Romero has shot par-or-better in 63 of her 79 rounds as a Duck while posting 32 rounds in the 60s, and she holds the program record with five career wins following her victory at the Chevron Collegiate this spring. As a sophomore last season, Romero won both the Big Ten and NCAA Gold Canyon Regional individual titles en route to leading the Ducks to the conference championship and a trip to the national semifinals at the NCAA Championships. In 27 stroke-play tournaments as a Duck, Romero has five wins, seven runner-up finishes, 20 top-10 finishes and 26 top-20 showings. Romero leads the Ducks this season with a 69.42 scoring average, shooting par-or-better in 13 of 16 rounds with one win, five top-10 finishes and six top-20 showings in six tournaments.
