Romero Earns Top-Five Finish at Augusta
04/04/26 | Women's Golf
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Oregon junior Kiara Romero used a terrific final round to record the best finish ever by a Duck at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, firing a 4-under 68 on Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club to tie for fourth overall at 4 under.
Romero entered the final round in a tie for 14th after shooting 2 under in each of the first two rounds. Her 4-under 68 in the final round moved her up 10 spots on the leaderboard to join Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu (T-5, 2023) as the only Ducks to place in the top five at the prestigious event.
Romero was nearly flawless in the final round, making five birdies against just one bogey en route to a 68. She made birdies on holes 1, 6 and 8 to make the turn at 3 under, and then got to 5 under with back-to-back birdies on 12-13 before making her lone bogey of the day at No. 17.
The No. 1 ranked amateur in the world, Romero was one of two current Ducks in the field along with junior Karen Tsuru. Two players set to join Oregon in the fall - transfer Catherine Rao and incoming freshman Prim Prachnakorn - were also in the field.
The No. 5 Ducks will close their 2025-26 regular season beginning on Monday at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., though they'll do so without Romero and Tsuru as they take a breather after competing at the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
