Softball Streak Stalled By Santa Barbara

POWAY, Calif. - The University of Oregon softball team was held scoreless for the first time this season, dropping a 2-0 decision to Santa Barbara in its first game at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in Poway, Calif. Oregon is 8-2 overall while the Gouchos improve to 10-1.
"We didn't play well tonight and the better team won," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "I thought we continued to fight hard, but it was too late. We just need to come out tomorrow and focus on winning and get back to what has been working for us."
Santa Barbara scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning after catcher Jami Trinidad hit a one-out double to left field. Diane Gerry came in to pinch run for Trinidad and scored on an RBI single by E.J. Lauchland. The Gouchos extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Diane Pershing.
Oregon seniors Alyssa Laux, Andrea Vidlund and Amber Hutchison each had one hit and freshman Beth Boskovich finished the game 1-for-1. Junior pitcher Anissa Meashintubby (1-1) picked up the loss.
The Ducks return to action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. versus Northridge.
