Steffen to Lead Rules Discussions at National Coaches Convention

EUGENE - Although the spring soccer season is less than two months away, Oregon head coach Bill Steffen is already in the middle of a busy schedule playing a key role at the top levels of the collegiate soccer instruction and decision-making calendar.
This past week, he was on a nationally-selected staff that served as head clinicians for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He spent Sun., Jan. 4 through Sun., Jan. 11 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., at the Hilton Sunrise Resort. He instructed coaches of all levels (youth to collegiate). Clinic topics covered all facets of the game, including runs in the box, finishing, goalkeeper psychology, team tactics and group tactics.
This week, he heads back to his Carolina digs, to serve a key role in the National Coaches Convention in Charlotte, Wed-Sun., Jan. 14-18, and held at the Charlotte Convention Center. As the NSCAA Division 1 women's soccer representative, he will collect information from the women's collegiate coaching membership on key topics such as substitution rules, head count vs. equivalency formulas, foreign tour exemptions, exempted contests and ideal number of contests, and travel days treated as rest days.
