Women Head to Seattle for Pac-10 Indoors

WHAT’S UP: Oregon opens up the 2004 season at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash. Last year’s reigning champ, junior Daria Panova is questionable for this weekend due to injury. If healthy, she will have a chance to defend her crown. Panova is currently rated the No. 8 player in the country. Panova is also ranked the No. 18 doubles team with teammate Courtney Nagle. Nagle and Panova went 18-10 last season.
PAC-10 TENNIS: All nine (Oregon State does have tennis) Pac-10 teams are respresented in this weekends event. All nine teams are ranked in the Top-51 in the country, with No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Cal, No. 6 USC, and No. 7 Washington holding spots in the Top-10.
SHOWCASE OF TALENT: Three Pac-10 players are ranked in the Top-10 in singles, led by No. 2 Raquel Kops-Jones from Cal. Also in the Top-10 are Stanford's Erin Burdette, rated No. 7, and Panova, rated No. 8. The remainder of the field boasts seven more players ranked in the Top-35. The doubles field is just as strong, headlined by UCLA's Jackie Carleton and Lauren Fisher who currently sit No. 3 in the country. Seven more doubles teams in this weekends field sit among the Top-30 in the nation including Oregon's Panova and Nagle, ranked No. 18.
COACH NILS SCHYLLANDER SAYS: “It is our goal to keep improving throughout the year and hopefully we will be a better team in May then when the season starts in January. We tasted success over the past two years and now we want to raise the bar even higher.”
