Panova Wins Second Straight Pac-10 Indoor And Third Straight Pac-10 Title

SEATTLE, Wash. ? Daria Panova showed this weekend why she is considered one of the best collegiate players in the country. The junior and reigning Pac-10 Player of the Year defeated Daniella Bercek of UCLA 6-4, 6-3 Sunday to claim the 2004 Pac-10 indoor crown.
"She has an enormous amount of will power," said head Coach Nils Schyllander. "Daria wanted this win so bad. It was probably her best match since coming to Oregon."
The win gave Panova her second consecutive Pac-10 indoor title, and third Pac-10 title in the past two years. Panova won the outdoor championship in 2003.
Senior Davina Mendiburu is back on stride after recovering from last season’s knee surgery by defeating Monica Weisener (Cal), 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 to claim the Flight IV championship.
"This was her (Davina) first tournament since the surgery," said Schyllander. "If she returns to form, she will make a big impact this year."
In the Flight III consolation finals, freshman Monica Hoz de Vila claimed the title against Chris Martinez of Washington State by default.
The Ducks continue action Jan. 24, when they play host to Sacramento State at 10:00 a.m.
