Wrestling Falls to No. 21 Cal State Bakersfield, 27-12

EUGENE, Ore. ? The Oregon wrestling team falls to No. 21 Cal State Bakersfield, 27-12 at McArthur Court in front of 433 fans. The Roadrunners win seven of ten bouts to clinch the victory over the Ducks in a Pac-10 meeting. The Roadrunners improve to 10-1 overall, 6-1 in Pac-10. The Ducks drop to 1-9 and 0-4.
"Cal State Bakersfield got here 12 mintues before the meet started and they were ready to go," head coach Chuck Kearney said. "They are a good team and we knew that coming in to today’s match."
The meet started at 157 with the most anticipated match of the night with two nationally ranked wrestlers going head-to-head. However, it didn’t take long for No. 13 Brian Cobb to pin No.19 Joey Bracamonte in a time of 0:50 for Cal State Bakersfield to take a big lead 6-0 to start the meet.
The Roadrunners capped the first three bouts to take a commanding lead over the Ducks, 12-0. However, the Ducks weren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. At 184, Scott O’Rear was the first to score taking a 2-0 lead over Dustin Fisher. Fisher tied O’rear with a takedown and then took the lead with a two-point nearfall with 0:17 seconds remaining the first period. Fisher then went on to take the match, 9-3. With the win, Fisher grabs his first dual win of the season. "Dustin has gotten better and has been working towards good positions," Kearney said. "My hat goes off to the courage he’s put out there. It was a great win for him tonight."
Eric Parker at heavyweight put up a tough fight against Cody Parker. Cody Parker was the first to score and kept the lead the entire match, eventually droping Eric Parker of Cal State Bakersfield in a decision match, 8-3.
With the score 6-20 in favor of the Roadrunners, the Ducks needed something to get motivated about. Senior Jason Harless gave the Ducks that much more to work for in the remaining two bouts of the night. Harless pinned Jack Anaya in 2:52 to secure his 12th win of the season.
Oregon was right back in the meet with two bouts to go. However, it just wasn’t enough to pull through for a victory. Cal State Bakersfield secured the win over the Ducks, 27-12.
The Ducks will travel to Boise, Idaho to face Pac-10 opponent Boise State in a dual meet on Fri. Jan. 30 starting at 6 p.m. Oregon will turn around and head to the desert to wrestle No. 18-ranked Arizona State on Sun. Feb. 1 starting at 1 p.m in Tempe, Ariz.
