Ducks Beat BYU, 5-2
EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon men’s tennis team defeated the Brigham Young Cougars 5-2, capturing their second win of the dual season. The Ducks swept doubles play and took four of the six singles matches to claim victory.
In doubles, sophomore Arron Spencer and junior Sven Swinnen defeated BYU’s Erik Nyman and Nima Roshan, 8-5. Ducks Thomas Bieri and Manuel Kost also claimed victory over Christian Hand and Ivan Kokurin of BYU, 8-2. While freshman Eric Pickard and senior Chris King of Oregon defeated BYU’s Tim Bradshaw and Dominik Kaufhold, 8-4.
In singles, King captured a hard fought victory against BYU’s Alonzo Medina, 6-4, 7-6. Also victorious was Swinnen defeating Nyman 6-4, 7-5. Other notable wins include sophomore Thomas Bieri’s straight set win over Richard Dasek of BYU, 6-1, 6-1. As well as Oregon junior Manuel Kost’s defeat over BYU’s Roshan, 6-3, 6-4.
"Doubles has been strong," said head Coach Chris Russell. "The guys are really doing the detail. It’s not a coincidence that the four guys in singles won. All four have been concentrating on their game plan and staying within the game plan."
The Ducks continue action on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m., against Louisiana-Lafayette.
