Ducks Take Care of Cajuns
The Ducks (3-0, 0-0) continue to look impressive, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2. Once again, the Duck doubles play played strong. For the third consecutive match, Oregon won all three doubles matches.
Sven Swinnen and Arron Spencer teamed for an, 8-5, victory over Shaun Ellison and Robin Ley at the No. 1 position. Thomas Bieri and Manuel Kost also picked up the win, defeating Evghenii Coruneau and Amanjot Singh, 8-2. In the No. 3 position, Chris King and Markus Schiller took down Marc Castellan and Ivan Kovalev, 8-3.
"Overall, it was a good performance," said assistant coach Ross Duncan. "We started things off well in doubles and that carried over into singles."
Junior Sven Swinnen look impressive, defeating Evghenii Coruneau in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The win gives Swinnen a perfect 3-0 dual match singles record on the year.
In the No. 2 slot, Thomas Bieri came up short against Amanjot Singh, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (7). Manuel Kost continues to inch back to top form, disposing of Robin Ley, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 play. Kost runs his singles record to 3-0 on the season.
Sophomore Markus Schiller beat Marc Castellana, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Schiller is an outstanding 8-1 in singles play since transferring to Oregon.
Arron Spencer took care of Ivan Kovalev, 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 5 slot, while senior Chris King was upended by Shaun Ellison , 2-6, 6-7.
"We were happy with our performance and hopefully carry the momentum to tomorrow," said Duncan. "The match against Pacific will likely prove to be the toughest of the weekend."
