Wrestling Falls to No. 19 Arizona State, 24-11
“We wrestled better this afternoon,” head coach Chuck Kearney said. “We bounced back from Friday night’s match against Boise State. Arizona State is a great team, probably the best team in the conference.”
The Ducks bounced back to pick up some big wins, individually, from Jason Harless, Joey Bracamonte, Luke Larwin and at heavyweight in an exhibition match, Cody Parker. Three of the four had major decisions but it wasn’t enough to beat the Sun Devils.
Jason Harless was the first to score points for the Ducks in the third bout of the day. Harless got the lead early on and held on to a major decision win over Curtis Ray, 10-0. Harless’ record improves to 13-6 overall and 7-5 in dual matches.
Joey Bracamonte had a close match with No. 17 Brian Stith in a match going back and forth the entire time. Bracamonte upset Stith in a 4-3 decision that was decided with a point for riding time in favor of Bracamonte.
In the third win for the Ducks, Luke Larwin dominated Jamie Robbins from the start. Larwin earned the victory with a 14-2 major decision. Larwin leads the Ducks, individually, and improves to 22-10 overall on the season.
“We need to have a good couple of weeks in the practice room to work on things and hopefully this is the start of our comeback late in the season,” Kearney said.
The Ducks will be out of competition the next two weeks and will return to take on in-state rival Oregon State in a home dual meet on Sun. Feb. 15 starting at 2 p.m. at McArthur Court.
