UO Men?s Golf Heads to Hawaii

EUGENE, Ore. ? The Oregon men’s golf team continues the early spring season with a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii to compete in the TaylorMade/Waikoloa Intercollegiate, Wednesday through Friday in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
The Ducks will face three of the nation’s top six golf teams -- No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Georgia Tech and No. 6 Texas Christian -- among the 21-team field. Teams will play 18 holes at the par-72, 6,594-yard Waikoloa Kings’ Course.
Oregon will send a team of freshmen Dustin Pewarchuk -- fresh off his first-ever top 20 finish at last week’s Ping Arizona Intercollegiate -- and Hawaiian native Matt Ma, and sophomores Kyle Johnson (North Bend High) Gregg LaVoie and Justin St. Clair (Thurston High).
In addition to the three top six teams, the field includes No. 9 Arizona State, No. 18 Arkansas, UC Davis, Hawaii, Hawaii-Hilo, Houston, Nagoya (Japan) Commerce, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Rhode Island, Stanford, Texas Tech, Tulsa, USC and Washington.
The Ducks finished 14th at last year’s TaylorMade/Waikoloa, shooting 867 and finishing 31 strokes back of team champion UCLA. LaVoie was Oregon’s top finisher in the 2003 event, tying for 41st at even-par 216.
