Desert Schools Visit Mac

WHAT’S ON TAP . . . The battle for second place in the Pac-10 continues Thursday, Feb. 19, when Oregon and No. 14 Arizona square off in a 7:30 p.m. game at McArthur Court. The duel against the desert schools continues Saturday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. when Arizona State comes calling. Fox Sports Net will televise both games live.
QUICK HITS...A brief look at what to watch for this week:
Home Sweet Home. Oregon is 37-3 at Mac over the last three seasons. Arizona is one of three visiting teams to win in Eugene the last three years.
Sharpshooters. Thursday’s game features the top two shooting teams in the Pac-10 -- Oregon at 48.6 percent and Arizona at 48.4 -- as well as the top two three-point shooting teams (Oregon: 41.1 pct; Arizona: 37.9 pct.).
Spirit of ?76. The Ducks are 12-0 this season when holding opponents to 76 points or less, and 0-7 when they do not.
Awesome Aussie. Forward Ian Crosswhite is averaging 18.0 points per game and shooting 63.3 percent (19-30) from the field the last three contests. Overall, he has scored 10 or more points in 17 of 19 games this season, while hitting 56.4 percent from the field.
Dunking Doughnuts. Those who saw Fred Jones play at McArthur Court weren’t terribly surprised when the Indiana Pacers guard won the NBA’s slam dunk contest over the weekend. The UO alumnus led the Ducks to the 2002 Pac-10 title and the NCAA Elite 8, finishing countless fast breaks in rim-rattling fashion.
Three Amigos. Oregon is sixth nationally and first in the Pac-10 in three-point shooting percentage, hitting 41.1 percent. Southern Utah is the current national leader at 42.9 percent.
