Wrestling Gets First Pac-10 Win to End Regular Season, 34-13
Portland, Ore. - The Oregon wrestling team snagged its first Pac-10 win of the season in its last dual meet at Portland State in Portland, Ore. on Wed. Night, 34-13. Oregon won seven of the ten bouts to improve its record to 2-12 overall and 1-7 in Pac-10 action. Portland State drops to 1-15, 0-9 to its dual meet season.
"It’s a good way to end the dual meet season and to head into the Pac-10 tournament with positive momentum," said head coach Chuck Kearney. "We wrestled tough tonight and that made the difference in tonight’s win."
The Ducks finished the season strong overall and will head into the Pac-10 tournament with confidence. The match started at 197 with Jake Leair defeating Portland State’s Allen Kennett in a decision match, 4-3 to give the early lead to the Ducks, 3-0.
The lead continued for the Ducks as heavyweight Cody Parker beat Eric Mustoe, 10-8 and Jason Harless defeated Lucas Hambleton at 133 in a major decision win, 15-7. Oregon had four pins in a row to end the dual from Joey Bracamonte at 157, Luke Larwin at 165, Chet McBee at 174 and Dustin Fisher at 184 to run away with the victory over the Vikings, 34-14.
This marks the last dual meet of the regular season for three wrestlers. Senior Jason Harless ends his dual career with a victory as well as senior Jake Leair and junior Dustin Fisher.
Oregon will have a week and half off from competition to get ready for the Pac-10 tournament on Feb. 29 and Mar. 1 in Tempe, Ariz. The Ducks placed fifth at last year’s tournament and sent three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
