The all-Colorado honoree (Denver Post) and second-team 4A all-state choice (Rocky Mountain News) led the Tigers with 103 tackles (65 unassisted) his senior year for a defense which allowed opponents only 118.4 yards a game passing and six touchdowns in 10 games. Included was a single-game personal high 14 stops in a 37-17 victory over Littleton as he accumulated double digits in tackles in six of his last seven outings and 12 takedowns in his final two prep appearances. In addition the first-team all-Mountain Plains Conference selection tallied two interceptions and one quarterback sack for a team which completed the 2003 season with a 6-4 ledger. Occasionally doubled as a running back, rushing for 191 yards and three TDs on 46 carries while adding two receptions for 30 yards. Also encountered a solid junior campaign, acquiring 55 tackles (37 unassisted), 328 yards rushing (4.4 avg.) as well as six receptions for 54 yards. He ran for 100 yards in a 2002 loss to Arvada. His rising stock indicative of Rivals.com elevating him to 41st in the country among prospective inside linebacker recruits.
