The SuperPrep and Prepstar All-American rated as the unanimous No. 1 prep cornerback candidate in the West (SuperPrep) as well as the sixth-best cornerback in the nation (TheInsiders.com). Finished 12th in the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Best in the West balloting while the two-time Contra Costa Times first-team all-area recipient was fifth on the publication’s 2003 Cream of the Crop ledger. California’s ninth-ranked prep prospect averaged 7.2 yards per carry (775 yards) and scored 14 touchdowns on the ground his senior season in addition to grabbing 14 catches for 224 yards and two scores. Also passed for one TD to lead the Spartans to their 12th straight undefeated season (13-0). Included were 120 yards rushing (8.6 avg.) and three touchdowns vs. Palma. Ranked third in the Bay Valley League in rushing and seventh in the area in scoring (102 points) for the national powerhouse which led the area in scoring (40.8 ppg), rushing (287.5 avg.) and total offense (403.6 avg.). Yet was probably at his best on the defensive side of the ball despite his modest 2003 numbers precipitated by a sterling junior campaign. Credited with 16 tackles, two interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries a year ago after intercepting eight passes as a junior. Elusiveness was showcased by his team-leading 14.3 punt return as well as his 22.5-yard kickoff return averages. The two-year starter was named a Student Sports Junior All-American for a program which limited opposing offenses to 200.3 yards per game. School completed the 2003 season with its 151st consecutive victory and ranked No. 1 in the country (USA Today) for the third year in a row. Characterized by one publication as a “playmaker” regardless of position, was a participant in this year’s California-Florida all-star game.
