Tennis Continues To Stay Hot
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon (5-0, 0-0) men’s tennis squad took down the Idaho Vandals, 7-0, at the Student Tennis Center. The Ducks perfection in doubles played continued, as they picked up three more doubles victories. The Ducks doubles record on the season is now 15-0.
Thomas Bieri and Manuel Kost won their match against Brad Lum-Tucker and Andrew Faulman, 8-3. The win marked the fifth straight for the duo. Sven Swinnen and Arron Spencer played in the No. 2 position, defeating Fabian Dummett and Seth Banks, 8-6. Rounding out the doubles portion was sophomore Markus Schiller and Eric Pickard, who took down Hector Mucharraz and Kevin Konishi, 8-1.
In singles, the Ducks took all six singles matches. Thomas Bieri earned his third victory and first at the No. 1 position by defeating Brad Lum-Tucker, 6-2, 6-4. Sven Swinnen ran his dual match record to 5-0 after taking down Chris Faulman, 6-1, 6-4.
Manuel Kost dominated Fabian Dummett, 6-0, 6-0, to earn the No. 3 position win, while Frankfurt, Germany native, Markus Schiller, defeated Hector Mucharraz, 6-2, 6-2. Kost and Schiller have combined for a 7-2 singles record at No. 3 and No. 4 positions this spring.
In the No. 5 and No. 6 position, both Arron Spencer and Eric Pickard took care of business. Spencer beat Seth Banks, 7-5, 6-7, (12-10) in a three sets barnburner at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Eric Pickard defeated James Cromwell, 6-3, 6-1. With Pickards’ win, the Ducks now hold a winning record at all six singles positions.
The Ducks hit the road where they will take on the Boise State Broncos on Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in Boise, Idaho. The Ducks do not return to the Student Tennis Center until Feb. 27, when they play host to the Rice Owls.
