Two Wrestlers Travel to St. Louis for NCAA Championships

Two Oregon wrestlers will travel to St. Louis, Mo. for the NCAA Wrestling Championships, slated for March 18-20 inside the Savvis Center. The first session will begin at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Thursday March 18. No. 18 sophomore Joey Bracamonte (157) and junior Luke Larwin (165) will represent the Ducks at the Championships. This will be the first trip for Bracamonte and second appearance for Larwin.
LAST YEAR
At last’s year event, Oregon took three wrestlers to nationals. Sophomore Shane Webster (174) advanced to the quarterfinals, coming within one point of advancing to the finals, but he eventually lost his final three matches of the tournament. Webster finished sixth at nationals. Junior Jason Harless (133) lost his first and second matches to end his season after battling late season injuries. Senior Casey Hunt (141) also lost his first and second matches on the first day of competition to end his career as a Duck. Oregon finished the tournament tied at 36th place.
NCAA NOTES
This year’s NCAA Championships will be hosted by the University of Missouri. St. Louis, Mo. will be the home of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in 2004 and 2005. This will be the first time in its history, the tournament will take place in the same city back-to-back years. The Savvis Center, home of the wrestling event, opened in 1994 and holds 20,000 seats. This will mark the second time the Savvis Center and St. Louis will host the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. In 2000, St. Louis set an NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships all-time total attendance record of 96,994. The rankings listed on this page reflects a school’s ability to score points at the National Tournament. A first place wrestler will score approximately 24 points for his team and an eighth place wrestler will score about seven points. Thus, if a team has one or two top-notch wrestlers, they will place in the top 20 at tournament time. These rankings are Intermat National Tournament Team Rankings.
