Luke Larwin Survives First Day at NCAA Championships

St. Louis, Mo. - Junior Luke Larwin won one match and lost one at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. at the Savvis Center on Thursday.
"Luke wrestled tough tonight," head coach Chuck Kearney said. "He wrestled the No. 3 seed and wrestled him tough. He knows he is three matches away from being an All-American and that has been his goal all year."

Larwin defeated Craig Pequignot of Millersville in a decision match, 3-2 during the first session of the tournament. He lost in the second round to No. 3 seed Matt King of Edinboro, 6-2. Larwin will wrestle Dustin Kawa of North Carolina State on Friday morning in the third session of the tournament.
"He will need to regroup after the loss tonight and get ready for tomorrow's matches," Kearney said.
Joey Bracamonte lost his first match of the day to No. 12 seed Brad Harper of Purdue, 8-7. He was unable to come back in the consolation round and was defeated by Matt Nagel of Minnesota, 10-6. The two loses end Bracamonte's sophomore season as a Duck.
Oklahoma State leads the pack after day one with 30 points as Illinois is second with 28. Nebraska is third with 25 points. Two teams are tied at fourth with 23.5 points--Iowa and Minnesota.
The NCAA Championships will resume Friday at 8 a.m. for the third session. Larwin will be the only wrestler to compete in the tournament for the Ducks.
